First & Last DC Summer

Gettysburg

Grandma and Grandpa Hardcastle visited us in June and we went on a quick road trip to Gettysburg. I didn't realize it was only 1 hr and 10 min. away. We took the little CD car tour to each of the significant battle areas. It was interesting, but it was hot and the kids didn't love being strapped in their car seats as we drove around looking at a lot of empty fields with statues scattered here and there. It's definitely something for big kids.

Two little monkeys
The girls actually hung out here for a while, waving to the cars as they went by, getting all excited if someone actually waved back. They got a smile or two, but mostly people just gave them a lot of weird looks, as if they were wondering if they should call and report that there were kids stuck in a tree. Avery nibbled on the blossoms, probably healthy.

Maddy's 4th Birthday

Madelyn invited some friends over for a pool party for her birthday. She's getting to be a big girl. We later went to the Olive Garden for dinner. Maddy wanted to go to Chili's instead, but we had a gift certicate to the Olive Garden (thanks Grandma Joan). She got upset when we told her we were going to the Olive Garden, so we just said, "fine, we'll go to Chili's", and then we went to the Olive Garden.... she had no idea. I'm not sure why we even argued about it. I think we treat our kids like adults sometimes, and we forget they're just teensy, and we're big.
